Artist Corner: Edson Lino

Greetings Gay Geeks and Gaymers!

We’re talking to Edson Lino from Sao Paulo, Brazil this week.

So tell us about yourself and what you do.

Well, I like to say I’m a simple guy. I work with telecommunications, I’m a father, I have a cute boyfriend. I like to eat BRIGADEIRO, it tastes soooooo good, even you, Americans, don’t believe. I like some cartoons. Recently I have seen a little of +18 cartoons. I LOOOVED IT 😉

Do you have an educational background in art?

No. I started a graduation in social communication, but I didn’t finish it. What I do now, as an artist, I learned by myself.

I have memories of drawing little houses and trees at my first childhood-school-time. For a long time it was away from my life, but, a little time ago, I thought it was time to go “back to basic”. (Thank you, Xtina :D).

For aspiring artists like yourself, what kind of advice can you give them?

Practice as hard as you can and follow everything that inspires you to draw more and more.

How has your practice changed over time?

Well, I’m the guy who always liked the traditional way of drawing: paper and pen. Nowadays, I’m the guy who walks around with a sketchbook that I don’t show to anybody. I learned a lot on the internet, where I usually look for inspiration.

Do you have a childhood memory of art?

Well, I’m a forty-year-old guy, so, I don’t remember. LOL

What art do you most identify with?

I really enjoy erotic images and I try to bring these feelings to my drawings.

Do you think people judge your art negatively at all?

Everytime that people judges my art as pornography. It happens almost all the time. It’s so tiring to be connected with the sexual idea. I’m gay, but I do art not to exhibit my sexuality, but to show that are more visions to see the world than the traditional ones.

What’s an embarrassing moment you’ve had?

I usually fix my drawings on the freezer’s door to take a picture and post it on my Instagram account, because the light of my kitchen is good. Then, one day, I forgot to take it away and went to bed. The next morning, my son woke up and went to the kitchen to have his cold milk with chocolate. After that, I woke up with his scream: “WHAT THE FUCK?”… Well, I don’t need to explain the rest of the situation… But, one thing I can assure: It was SO FUCKING BIG. LOL

What memorable responses have you had to your work?

I have never shown my work to a huge public, just to a small group of friends. They encourage me to free my art and then I’m almost with 600 followers on my Instagram. It means a whole world to me.

What superpower would you have and why?

I would like to read the people’s mind, coz’ I’d love to know what they really think.

Where can fans get more of you (social media, websites, etc)?

All my jobs are on my Instagram account. Follow me, guys!

Anything you would like to say to your fans?

WOW, I’ve never expected so much support, comments, likes and all the good reactions about my work. I’d like to say a HUGE thank you all for that! It’s so fucking nice all the love and feedback I’ve been given. You rock, guys!
