Artist Corner: Fabrissou

Greetings gay geeks and gaymers! We’re talking to Fabrissou from Paris, France! We get to chat with him about the Dokkun comics, Japanese anime, and his eyebrow fetish!

So what do you think inspires your artwork the most?

I was a kid raised by Japanese cartoons, and then Japanese comics. In my twenties, I discovered a comic drawn by French artist superstar Logan, and the I knew I wanted to draw sexy guys myself. I started a french gay comic book fanzine called Dokkun in 2010, and I regularly draw in it since then.
I live in Paris with my boyfriend who is an amazing artist and draws in Dokkun as well.

What makes your artwork different or unique than others?

I like to think of my art as cute and funny. It is very influenced by Japanese popular art, anime, and comics.  A friend of mine says I draw gay moe.

What got you into art?

I always liked to draw as far as I can remember, but it is definitively Logan who got me into art more seriously. After that, I started to buy a lot of Japanese gay comics, and my style is heavily influenced by them!

Any works of art you’re most proud of?

The Dokkun books, definitively! I know have an exhibition in the French bookstore Les Mots à la Bouche

Are you into anything nerdy/geeky (video games, anime, cartoons, TV shows, comics)?

Oh yes, I am! I am a huge fan of Japanese pop culture! I love Japanese comics, and I watch a lot of Japanese anime as well. I like to play to videogames, essentially Japanese ones! I watched Kill La Kill recently, and I now play Odin Sphere! I like visual novels as well, my favourite one is Umineko no Naku Koro ni, wich is now in English via Steam!
I read some American comics if I like the art (Ramos, Madureira, Bachalo, Bradshaw…)
And like everyone, In watch, a lot of TV shows on Netflix ^^

For aspiring artists like yourself, what kind of advice can you give them?

Shut down your internet connection and draw, draw, draw!!!

Who are you and what do you do?

I am a 37 years old french guy living in Paris. As a day job, I am an adult trainer for a railway company in France. I eat too much and don’t do any sport. I like to think of myself as a funny person. I love drag queens and role playing games!

What’s your background?

I was born and raised in the suburbs of Paris. I didn’t do any studies, and I had to work early to earn some money. I watched a lot of Japanese anime when I was a kid. I lived my childhood with dogs. I love dogs and cats!

How has your practice changed over time

Thanks to my boyfriend, I am more focused now. I draw using a digital tablet most of the time. My characters have bigger and bigger eyebrows as time goes by.

What art do you most identify with?

Japanese gay comic artist called Masanori. This is the first artist I ever read when I discovered Japanese gay comics, and he will always have a special )place in my art.

What’s an embarrassing moment you’ve had?

Oh, since I play to role playing games recently, and I’m not very good… I’m always very embarrassed when I play.

What memorable responses have you had to your work?

Being a friend of 3 of the bests artists in the world! Gengoroh Tagame, Logan, and Silencio. I admire them as artists, and I love them as a person.
It is also a great pleasure when artists I love reblog or like my art !^^

What are you passionate about?

Songs. I sing every time I can.
And Eyebrows! I’m a huge fetichist.

What’s the best piece of advice you’ve been given?
For art: Use layers, use masks. Never finish a piece the same day you started it.
