Captain America’s Death Revealed

The Russo Brothers, Anthony Russo and Joseph V. Russo, and Marvel President Kevin Feige revealed that during production they actually did consider killing Captain America in Captain America: Civil War.

Steve Rogers, played by Chris Evans was supposed to killed in battle just like in the Civil War comics.

Despite some pretty hard hits, most of the Marvel characters made it out of the film alive in one piece. Initially, the Russo Brothers were planning on Captain America making the ultimate sacrifice but decided against it.

Joe Russo explained, “We talked about lots of potential characters dying at the end of the movie. And we thought that it would undercut what is really the rich tension of the movie, which is this is Kramer vs Kramer. It’s about a divorce. If somebody dies, it would create empathy, which would change and allow for repair, and we didn’t want to do that.”

Anthony Russo also added, “The tragedy is the family falls apart. Not that the family falls apart and then somebody dies.”

The true storyline of the film was the fracturing of a team. The three talked about every possible scenario over and over again, but it never made it to a realistic outline. With some ideas beyond Rhodey.

Feige went on to say, “We talked about lots of potential characters dying at the end of the movie. And we thought that it would undercut what is really the rich tension of the movie, which is this is Kramer vs Kramer. It’s about a divorce. If somebody dies, it would create empathy, which would change and allow for repair, and we didn’t want to do that.”
