So Isaku, tell us a little bit more about you.

Worked for SquareEnix in London ones. I have a Mum, who is a hardcore gamer girl, and I am a member of an Austrian Cosplay Show-Group

How old were you when you started doing cosplay?

I did my first Cosplay with 23, but there have only been 3 Cosplays until I turned 27, the rest followed afterwards!

What got you into cosplay in the first place?

Friends! I have some of the best craziest people I can call my friends, and it took some years, but then they got me to Cosplay with them, and suddenly I bought a sewing machine…

How do you define cosplay?

Improve yourself each time, creating and acting. If you can’t feel the character, if you can’t pose properly when u are asked to from a photographer, it’s just a costume but no Cosplay for me. There has to be a difference between carnival and Cosplay.

How has cosplay changed your life?

It took over my life! It’s fun, it’s friendship and an explanation where all my money went to. Cosplay took over most parts of my life, I can’t go on holiday, I go to conventions, all my friends do Cosplay, maintaining my Cosplay page and other social media accounts take a lot of my free times.

What are your views of being body positive when doing cosplay?

You have to be self-confident to Cosplay, you can change a costume slightly from its template, so it fits you better, that’s fine, and there is nothing wrong about it. And yes, everyone should cosplay what they want to, but I think you also should think about does a character fits you, that’s always important for me. I just can’t do a big bodybuilder character, because I wouldn’t be satisfied with myself. And that’s not because I don’t like my body, it’s because I know there are tons of other characters that fit me better.

What’s your most memorable experience while cosplaying?

Meeting some of my idols at a convention, like Elffi, Calssara, Yaya!

What’s a tip you give to others who want to get into cosplay?

Just do it! There are no rules, and other question would be what tip I could give a person who wants to start Cosplay with a Cosplay page on FB!

What’s an interesting fact about yourself outside of cosplay?

Played a character once in one of the most famous TV Shows in Austria and had a nude sex scene in another one.

Besides cosplay, what other nerdy/geeky things do you do?

Playing computer games since I was six years old, love reading books, especially Janet Evanovich, Agatha Christie and fantasy books! Also, love Tv-Shows and old movies!

What was your most expensive/hardest cosplay you did and why?

I don’t do armours, and that’s why most of my Cosplays cost between 50 and 100 Euros, so I can’t tell my most expensive. My hardest cosplays were Wallace from Pokemon, because of the pattern and how to hide my penis and Slytherin from Harry Potter, also because of the pattern!

Do you have any cosplay pet peeves?

To buy 100 different green fabrics because the ones u have at home are not perfect XD And to sting in my finger with the needles EVERY TIME! And of course wig-headache.

Do you compete in any cosplay contests?

I did with my friends twice and we both times made the first place.

Do you feel like the cosplay world has changed over the last years? More free and accepting?

It has changed, but not freer and accepting in my opinion. Cosplay became more business. And I think you have to differ if you talk with/about someone who has a Cosplay page or who has not. If you have a page, you are putting yourself out in public, like an actor/actress! Then you of course still buy Cosplays, but u should do most of the Cosplays by yourself, because otherwise why should u have a page, you would be a Cos-Model and not a Cosplayer anymore. And you have to be strong enough to handle the critics. That is happening if you put yourself out there! If you can’t do that, just Cosplay for yourself and don’t create a page. Everyone is competing nowadays!

Worst experience at a con or your pet peeve?

Being photographed while eating. Why? Just why? The last time we told them not to do it and they ignored it and just went on…

What would you say to a first time cosplayer?

Don’t immediately create a Facebook page, just do what you want and just try to sew, there’s nothing u have to be afraid of. And u will love it!

Where can fans get more of you (social media, websites, etc.)?
