The Spawn film that was released back in 1997 didn’t quite shock audiences. But Todd McFarlane hopes to reboot the comic book film and make it what it should have been.
McFarlane is hoping to give the fans a much more terrifying Spawn. In an interview with Comic Book, he talked about his version of Spawn:
I’d put it more into the horror/suspense/supernatural genre. If you take the movie The Departed meets Paranormal Activity, something like that…In the background, there’s this thing moving around, this boogeyman.
McFarlane is hoping the film with be Rated R. Likening Spawn to horror films like The Grudge or The Ring.
“He’s this thing that just whooshes in, this ghost that moves and will f*** you up if you’re in the wrong place in the wrong time, and the rest of the movie will look real, and be this real drama. He’s just this ghost, this thing behind it.”
This take on a comic book character that isn’t meant to be a superhero film or action movie could be a refreshing take on one of the most hell-raising characters launched from a comic book.
