Have you ever watched an X-Men film or TV show, and thought, I could do better? Well someone did just that. Joel Furtado set out to make a tribute to his favorite 90s X-Men characters. He considered it a love letter to Marvel.
“I started developing the idea for the series about a year ago,” Furtado said. “It’s my love letter to Marvel and my childhood, but it’s also a way for me to give something back to loyal fans like me.”
But when Marvel found out about his project and miniseries, they went after him with lawyers and a legal battle over copyright infringement.
X-Men: Danger Room Protocols was going to be an 18-episode animated fan series, featuring two X-Men running through The Danger Room. Professor X is watching each of their programs and pitting them against some of the X-Men’s deadliest foes.
In his short videos, he’s pitted your favorite X-Men versus classic villains like…
Sentinels vs. Jean Grey & Wolverine
Mr. Sinister vs. Storm & Cyclops
and even Psylocke and Nightcrawler against The Silver Samurai
You can still see some of his work on his Instagram account.
Do you think it’s right what they did to him?
